Rep. Udell: Celebrates post-partum Medicaid and Gail’s Law

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin’s 2025-2026 legislative session ends this week. Among the eighty-eight bills scheduled for February 19th, post-partum Medicaid expansion and Gail’s Law passed near-unanimously.

Representative Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:

“After years of fighting for this legislation, we finally convinced Republican leadership to schedule a vote on Post-Partum Medicaid Expansion and Gail’s Law. These laws will extend Medicaid coverage for new mothers to a full year after giving birth, instead of only sixty days, and will require insurance companies to cover diagnostic and supplemental breast cancer screenings for women at increased risk of breast cancer. These laws will save women’s lives, and I am beyond proud of my caucus’s work.

“Yet, there is so much more to be done. This year, the Wisconsin Legislature failed to fund our public schools from the state level, and Wisconsin families paid the price through property taxes. The Republican majority has refused to bring our solutions for this crisis to the Assembly floor.

“It is clear that change is needed in the Legislature, and my caucus is ready to deliver.”
