Madison, Wis. — Today marked a huge victory for Wisconsin women’s and children’s health. After years of work, the WI State Assembly passed unanimous votes for Gail’s Law and AB97, Postpartum Medicaid Coverage expansion.
Gail’s Law, named for Gail Zeamer, advocated tirelessly for insurance companies to provide 100% coverage for supplemental breast screenings for women with dense breast tissue or high-risk factors. Sadly, though Gail has passed, her family and hundreds of Wisconsinites continued her advocacy.
“Passing Gail’s Law is an absolute win for women. This victory is theirs. I am grateful to Gail, her family and my colleagues who have worked for years to get this bill to a vote,” Roe said.
After a hard-fought battle to get the postpartum Medicaid expansion bill to a vote in the Assembly after being blocked by the majority party speaker, “is a huge win for Wisconsin moms and babies,” Roe commented.
“My predecessors began this work a decade ago and the delay tactics and actions of the majority party cost women’s lives,” Roe explained.
“The votes today represent the kind of work and service I hoped to contribute to in order to give Wisconsin women the healthcare and support they need and deserve,” Roe said.
