Plastic Ingenuity: Expands thermoform healthcare packaging into Europe

MADISON, Wisconsin—Plastic Ingenuity, one of the largest custom thermoformers in North America, has expanded its operations into Europe with the acquisition of Spezi-Pack, an established thermoforming company located near Dresden, Germany. This expansion enables Plastic Ingenuity to offer regional European manufacturing for medical device and pharmaceutical packaging, increasing efficiencies along the value chain.

“With manufacturing now available in both North America and Europe, Plastic Ingenuity is better positioned to support localized production, improve supply chain resilience, and meet the evolving needs of global healthcare customers,” said Dan Kuehn, President and CEO of Plastic Ingenuity.

The Spezi-Pack team brings nearly 40 years of thermoforming experience, and former company president Dirk Walters will continue to oversee operations in Germany, which will carry on uninterrupted. “A strong, tenured team is already in place, and they are excited about the growth opportunities our new ownership will provide to them,” Kuehn said.

Significant investment in the facility will further support healthcare applications. Plastic Ingenuity’s planned enhancements include the addition of an ISO Class 7 cleanroom and new thermoforming lines to expand capacity for medical and pharmaceutical packaging. These upgrades are targeted to be fully operational by Q1 2027.
