SSM Health recently opened its new 40,000 square foot Verona Outpatient Center, a modern ambulatory care facility designed to provide convenient, comprehensive healthcare services for the growing Verona, Wisconsin community. The new center offers a wide range of services under one roof, including primary care, eye care, orthopedics, women’s health, dermatology, nutrition counseling, diabetes education, laboratory services, imaging, and an optical retail space. The facility was thoughtfully designed to improve the patient experience while enhancing access to high-quality care close to home.
Located on a 100-acre site, the project required annexation into the City of Verona, significant off-site utility and roadway improvements, and a development approach that preserved nearly 60 acres of surrounding agricultural land. The result is a healthcare destination that balances community growth with environmental stewardship.
The clinic’s design supports an integrated care team model, featuring innovative double-sided exam rooms and a self-rooming concept that streamlines patient flow, reduces wait times, and improves care coordination. These features create a more efficient and convenient experience for patients while supporting high-quality clinical outcomes.
Sustainability and wellness were also key priorities throughout the project. The facility is pursuing WELL Building certification and incorporates energy-efficient systems, enhanced building performance measures, and biophilic design elements that promote health and well-being. Building systems have been optimized for indoor air quality, acoustics, lighting, water performance, and thermal comfort. The facility is projected to achieve a 17% reduction in energy costs and an Energy Star score between 88 and 93.

Designed by Kahler Slater, an award-winning international architecture, interior design, environmental branding, and advisory services firm, the project builds on the success of SSM Health’s Monroe facility and represents the next generation of community healthcare, combining innovative design, operational efficiency, and a patient-centered approach to serve residents today and for years to come.
