Xcel Energy: Offers free home energy assessments to help qualified residents save on energy bills

Eau Claire, Wis. (Sept. 8, 2025) – Xcel Energy is launching a new initiative aimed at helping income-qualified customers improve their home energy efficiency and reduce their energy bills.

Beginning this month, Xcel Energy is offering free home energy assessments to qualified customers. The assessments are conducted by trained contractors using specialized equipment such as blower doors and infrared cameras, which are designed to uncover air leaks, insulation gaps, and assess combustion safety. A home energy assessment can be a crucial step in identifying the sources of uncomfortable drafts, high energy bills and potential health or safety concerns.

“We are committed to helping our customers achieve greater energy efficiency and comfort in their homes,” said Jennifer Nielsen, manager, Energy Efficiency Programs at Xcel Energy. “By offering free home energy assessments to customers who qualify for energy assistance, we aim to provide homeowners with the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions about their home improvements.”

In addition to the valuable insights gained from the assessment, residents can take advantage of substantial savings through rebates offered by Focus on Energy and the Federal IRA Home Rebate programs. This opportunity is available for owner-occupied, income-qualified residents living in single-family homes, duplexes or triplexes.
