MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – in partnership with Inland Packaging in La Crosse, released a new video Wednesday highlighting how Wisconsin manufacturers have contributed to the state’s economy due to the manufacturing and agriculture credit (MAC). WMC’s General Counsel and Director of Tax, Transportation, and Legal Affairs, Evan Umpir, appeared in the video alongside Mark Glendenning, President of Inland Packaging, to break down the benefits of the MAC and emphasize its necessity to keep Wisconsin’s manufacturing industry competitive.
Signed into law by Governor Scott Walker in 2011 and phased in beginning in 2013, the MAC incentivizes manufacturing growth and expansion in the state. Inland Packaging and many other manufacturers across Wisconsin utilize the MAC to reinvest in employees and hire new ones, purchase new equipment, and expand their operations, which stimulates Wisconsin’s economy.
“Since 2010, we’ve invested well over $70 million in Wisconsin, and only because of the MAC,” said Glendenning. “Today, we have nearly 400 jobs in the state of Wisconsin, offering good-paying manufacturing opportunities. If we had left the state, that would have eliminated 400 jobs across Wisconsin.”
Manufacturing is the backbone of Wisconsin’s economy. Employing more than 465,000 Wisconsinites across more than 9,000 manufacturers, Wisconsin’s manufacturing industry contributed $73.7 billion to Wisconsin’s economy in 2024, more than 16 percent of the state’s GDP.
“The MAC has benefited Wisconsin’s economy by propelling investments and expansions that, in turn, grow our manufacturing capabilities and output,” said Umpir. “Now, more than ever, it’s critical that we continue to invest in American manufacturing and ensure Wisconsin’s top industry is equipped to face the global challenges ahead.”
