Wisconsin Historical Society: Wade House’s Autumn Celebration weekend returns Oct. 11-12

Pumpkin carving, apple pressing, horse-drawn fall color wagon rides and more seasonal traditions await during this weekend of family-friendly fun

GREENBUSH, Wis. – Revel in the sights, sounds and flavors of fall at Wade House’s annual Autumn Celebration weekend, returning Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12. Set against the backdrop of the Kettle Moraine, this two-day event invites guests of all ages to enjoy hands-on activities, traditional games and seasonal treats on the historic grounds of the Wade House Stagecoach Inn.

From pumpkin carving and apple pressing to traditional harvest games like snap apple, this event brings the whole family together through a variety of autumn activities. Head to the water-powered Herrling Sawmill and listen to spooky family-friendly stories by candlelight before warming up with a hot cup of apple cider. Sample freshly baked apple pie in the Wade House kitchen or smoked sausage prepared in the Wade House’s smoke house. Take a horse-drawn wagon ride through the wooded landscape, to the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum, and view original century-old carriages. Or purchase freshly baked Amish apple pies in the gift shop.

Back by popular demand, the fall color Stagecoach Saturday ride will once again be offered on Saturday, Oct. 11. For an additional fee, leaf peepers can take a 30-minute journey by stagecoach through the Wade House countryside, recreating a 19th century travel experience and offering views of the autumn landscape. On Oct. 18, the Prairie Schooner fall color ride is available.

The Dockstader Blacksmith Shop also welcomes guests for demonstrations and festive fall games. Autumn Celebration Weekend runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
