Wauwatosa School District: Superintendent named UNCF Walk for Education grand marshal

Wauwatosa, WI – Wauwatosa School District Superintendent Dr. Demond Means has been named as the Grand Marshal of the 41st Annual United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Walk for Education on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at the lakefront at Veterans Park, 1010 N Lincoln Memorial Dr., in Milwaukee.

“It is my honor to serve as the Grand Marshal for a great cause,” Means said. “This important event will help make education accessible to everyone by eliminating financial barriers for deserving students.”

The UNCF has been a leader in funding the post-secondary aspirations and dreams for African American students for more than 70 years. The organization’s tagline, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste,” highlights the urgency of now in ensuring that we create opportunities for deserving students to advance to colleges and universities of their choice.

Since 1944, the UNFC has been a major catalyst nationally in increasing the number of students of color attending college. Amazingly, the graduation rate of a UNCF scholarship recipient is 70% – nearly a third higher than the national average for African American students.

Event registration is 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, followed by a 9-9:30 a.m. warm-up. The walk/run will begin at 9:30 a.m.
