MADISON, Wis. – Patients can now download a mobile app for more convenient access to information to help navigate their experiences at UW Health.
The app, called UW Health Nexus, is designed to be a central hub for patients to enhance their experience and connection with their care, according to Crystal Albrent, director, digital health and emerging technologies, UW Health.
“We’re investing in innovative technology to make it easier for our patients to navigate an often-complex health care system,” she said.
UW Health Nexus can efficiently direct users to immediate care sites, including urgent care and emergency department locations. This feature directs the user to a map, displaying the closest urgent care sites in Wisconsin and the current wait times at each location. Once a site is selected, users are directed to their preferred navigation app for directions.
The map features expand beyond immediate care, according to Albrent.
Users can navigate to any UW Health location, which are all pinned and labeled on a map, and users can filter the map to find the nearest hospital, lab, primary care location, pharmacy and more.
Not only can patients navigate to UW Health locations in the app, but through them as well.
“Patients with appointments at Eastpark Medical Center can use the Nexus app to navigate from home all the way through the facility right to their appointment destination using step-by-step instructions,” she said.
This feature is being evaluated for expansion to other locations such as University Hospital, according to Albrent.
One of the most accessed features in UW Health Nexus is MyChart. Additionally, users can access profiles of their care team, Care Anywhere video visits for on-demand telehealth urgent care, the ability to pay bills, visit uwhealth.org, search Health Facts for You resources, get information on patient visitor guidelines and more, she said.
“Previously, our patients had to go to several websites or apps as part of their care experience,” Albrent said. “Nexus is our solution to that challenge, with everything in one place.”
Throughout 2025, several other features will be evaluated to potentially be added to UW Health Nexus, including a place for prescription refills, access to care options such as virtual care and more.
