MADISON, WI—A growing number of Wisconsin employers are exploring self-funded health plans to gain more control over rising healthcare costs.
The Alliance added more than 100 new employer-members in the past year, marking one of the largest membership increases in the organization’s 35-year history. Currently, The Alliance has over 500 employer-members and covers over 123,000 lives.
“There’s a noticeable momentum building,” said Curt Kubiak, President and CEO of The Alliance. “Employers want flexibility and control and that’s something The Alliance offers via access to data, customizable provider networks and the strength of our cooperative.”
Collectively, The Alliance employer-members bought more than $1 billion in healthcare in 2024 and saved more than $480 million—more than 41% in savings for our employer-members and their employees and families.
“Not only are new employers joining us, but current members are deepening their engagement by redesigning their plans to deliver even greater value,” said Kubiak. “The results speak for themselves, and we’re seeing a ripple effect as word spreads across the employer community.”
To keep up with the increasing interest in self-funding, The Alliance has also been working to grow its expansive provider network of more than 150 hospitals, 9,300 clinics and 36,000 doctors and other practitioners in the Midwest.
