A Bit of History
Founded by Randy Sprecher in 1985, Sprecher Brewing Company was Milwaukee’s first craft brewery to open since Prohibition. Its initial lineup featured Special Amber, Black Bavarian, and Hefe Weiss, with rotating seasonal offerings. Root beer was introduced shortly after to give kids on brewery tours something special to drink—and its popularity quickly led to retail sales beginning in 1986.
In January 2020, Sprecher was purchased by Sharad Chadha and a small group of investors. Under their leadership, the company has grown significantly, with Sprecher’s 20 craft sodas now available in 49 states.
Sprecher is one of the only breweries in the U.S. that uses fire brewing to create its bold flavored craft beer and sodas. When combined with locally sourced raw honey, this makes Sprecher Root Beer the “No. 1 Root Beer in the U.S.” according to The New York Times.
According to Sharad Chadha, president and CEO of Sprecher, “In today’s world, people want an affordable indulgence. A special experience they can share with family and friends at parties and special events. Sprecher’s craft sodas deliver this.”
“I like to say, Sprecher represents happiness in a bottle.”
Sprecher Brewery takes pride in being an active part of the Greater Milwaukee community. The company employees 150+ people and also owns/manufactures Green River Soda, Juvee energy drinks. For more information visit: SprecherBrewery.com
