Protect Our Care: Statement: House Republicans propose ‘dirty CR’ but they must fix the health care mess they created

Washington, D.C. – Republicans have proposed a short-term funding continuing resolution (CR) that does nothing to address the chaos they have caused in the American health care system. Instead, Republicans are so intent on ending health insurance tax credits for working people and worsening the health care crisis they created by gutting Medicaid that they are willing to shut down the government.

Democrats have made clear that they are eager to vote for a budget that does not cause the American people more pain. Republicans have full control of the House, Senate, and Presidency. It is up to them to decide: shut down the government or protect American families from more harm.

“The Republican proposal is laughable,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “It does absolutely nothing to address the pain they have caused and the chaos they have thrown our health care system into. It only stands to further their agenda of ripping away coverage and raising costs on hard-working families to reward billionaires and big corporations with more tax breaks. If your budget takes away tax credits that people currently have and maintains deep cuts to Medicaid, it’s a dirty CR – not clean. Republicans must own what they have done and fix it now before it gets worse.”
