Protect Our Care: Senator Johnson, Rep. Van Orden can’t hide from the GOP health care crisis

As Window Shopping Opens in Wisconsin, Families See Eye-Popping Premium Hikes

WISCONSIN – This week, the more than 313,000 hard-working Wisconsinites who buy health insurance on their own are experiencing the Republican health care betrayal firsthand as they preview their health insurance premiums for 2026 through the Healthcare.gov online window shopping portal. They, along with over 20 million people across the country, face massive health insurance premium increases for next year because Donald Trump, Senator Ron Johnson, and Rep. Derrick Van Orden cut health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires and shut down the government to rip away tax credits for working people.

“There is no longer any doubt about the health care disaster Republicans have created for Wisconsinites,” said Protect Our Care Wisconsin State Director Joe Zepecki. “Wisconsin families can now log onto a computer and see the Republican health care betrayal right before their eyes. Premiums are skyrocketing for working people who just want to be able to see a doctor without draining their life savings, all because Ron Johnson, Derrick Van Orden, and their Republican buddies prioritized tax breaks for billionaires over health care for everyday people.”

Background

Wisconsin voters don’t have to guess how much the GOP’s health care chaos is costing them. On October 28, health insurance window shopping for Wisconsinites went live, allowing hard-working families to compare their monthly premiums for next year with and without the health care tax credits that Republicans shut down the government to end.

The GOP price hikes for Wisconsinites are shocking:

Premiums for a 60-year-old couple making $85,000 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Congressman Derrick Van Orden’s district, will cost $2,105.02 more per month and $25,260.24 more per year in 2026, more than triple their premium for the same plan this year.
