(Green Bay, Wis.) – The Port of Green Bay saw 244,675 tons of cargo during the month of August. This is an increase of 22,983 tons over July’s total. Tonnage totals are currently down only 21% compared to the same time period last season, as opposed to 36% last month.
“Shipping tonnage continues to see positive momentum as the season progresses,” said Dean Haen, Port of Green Bay Director. “We’re seeing encouraging signs in commodity movement. If this pace continues, we expect the season to close at a level comparable to last year.”
Four key commodities moved through the Port of Green Bay in August, including limestone (119,019 tons), petroleum products (45,718 tons), cement (44,581 tons) and salt (35,357 tons). A total of 24 vessels visited the Port last month, bringing the year-to-date total to 77 ships.
“The Port of Green Bay is a vital link in our regional economy,” added Haen. “Whether it’s supporting jobs or ensuring access to essential raw materials, the Port and its terminal operators are key contributors to Northeastern Wisconsin’s economy and quality of life.”
