Madison, WI – The Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin applauds Governor Tony Evers for signing Executive Order #275, which directs the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) to employ every available lever to safeguard widespread access to safe and effective vaccines, and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services for issuing a statewide standing order ensuring patients have access to the COVID-19 vaccine in pharmacies without a prescription.
This vital standing order from the Department of Health Services reaffirms Wisconsin’s commitment to the health of every community member.
Vaccines are among the most powerful tools in preventing illness, hospitalization, and death. By issuing a standing order that allows Wisconsinites to receive vaccines through local pharmacies without a prescription, the state is making real progress toward ensuring that all residents, including children, seniors, and vulnerable populations, have timely access to immunizations.
In an era where misinformation can propagate rapidly, the Executive Order stands as a clear message: decisions about health will be guided by medical expertise and peer-reviewed science, not partisan politics.
“As the most accessible health care providers in our communities, pharmacists see firsthand how important it is to make vaccines available without barriers,” said Sarah Sorum, pharmacist and CEO of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. “This standing order empowers pharmacists to protect more patients, strengthen public health, and ensure that every Wisconsinite, whether in a small town or a big city, can get the vaccines they need when they need them.”
Wisconsin has taken an important step toward reaffirming that public health decisions are grounded in science and compassion. This is a moment of leadership – one that aims to protect lives, strengthen communities, and restore trust in public health infrastructure.
The Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin stands ready to support the implementation of this statewide standing order and work tirelessly to see that every Wisconsinite who wishes to be vaccinated can do so safely.
