People First Wisconsin: Supports Gov. Evers investments in disability community

People First Wisconsin thanks Governor Tony Evers for a state budget that supports people with disabilities to go to school and live in their communities with the supports they need to be contributing citizens.

“The historic investment in special education and school-based mental health supports, along with increases for transportation, abuse and neglect oversight and investigation, and funding for ABLE accounts are all important steps to supporting Wisconsin’s disability community,”
said Cindy Bentley, People First Executive Director.

“We also thank for the Governor for his proposal to put a final stop to waiting for children with significant disabilities and their families by making the Children’s Long Term Care program sum sufficient.”

Bentley also thanks the Governor for his investment in lead prevention and abatement: the leading and totally preventable cause of acquired developmental disabilities in children.

“People First continues to be concerned about proposed huge federal cuts to Medicaid,” Bentley said. “We know that states depend on federal funding to build their budgets, so want to continue to work with the Governor and Legislature to prevent Medicaid cuts, as we also reach out to Congress on this critical issue.”
