MyPath: Is first 100% employee-owned company to receive National Certification as Majority Women Employee-Owned (MWEO)

(Oconomowoc, Wis.) MyPath, a provider of specialized education, therapeutic, and community support services for high-need individuals in Wisconsin and Indiana, was honored to receive National Certification as the first 100% employee-owned Majority Women Employee-Owned business from the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO).

Pursuing this accreditation was a top priority among MyPath’s leadership. “We are proud to be recognized by the NCEO as a Majority Women Employee-Owned Business. This certification emphasizes our belief that ownership and opportunity go hand in hand. Empowering women and employees alike drives stronger results for our company, our clients, and our communities,” says MyPath President & CEO Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson.

MyPath has over 1,900 employee owners and nearly 75% are women. Of the 13 executive team members and executive directors, 12 are female.

Oconomowoc Residential Programs (ORP) which would eventually become MyPath was founded in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin in 1984. It consisted of Oconomowoc Developmental Training Center (ODTC), a residential treatment program for children with special needs; Homes for Independent Living (HIL), an operator of independent homes for individuals with disabilities and mental illness and SOMED Inc., a therapy company that provided speech, occupational, and physical therapy services to other community-based providers. For over 40 years MyPath has successfully navigated changes in the economy and regulatory philosophy. Their programs and services have grown and expanded when necessary to meet the needs of the people they serve, as well as reduced in size when industry demand shifted. Currently, MyPath’s array of services includes educational, therapeutic, and community supports to allow those they serve to live full and productive lives in the community—to find their path.

In 2016, MyPath became 100% Employee-Owned and currently serves as the fourth largest healthcare/human services employee-owned company in the nation and is the fifth largest in Wisconsin. MyPath was also named 2021 Wisconsin ESOP Company of the year.
