Minocqua Brewing Company: Hosts emergency food drive Sunday to support Northwoods families

Minocqua, WI – With federal SNAP benefits ending November 1, the Minocqua Brewing Company is organizing an emergency food drive this Sunday, November 2, from 1–4 p.m. at its flagship taproom, 329 Front Street, Minocqua.

The event, led by Attorney Fred Melms and taproom manager Dawn Winquist, aims to help families in the Oneida and Vilas counties area who may face food insecurity as benefits are cut. Each person who stops by will receive one free bag of food, no questions asked.

“We realized that while bigger cities have food drives underway, the Northwoods could be left behind,” said Kirk Bangstad, owner of Minocqua Brewing Company and host of the Up North Podcast. “With thousands of families losing SNAP assistance, we wanted to act quickly to do what we can to help fill the gap.”

The idea grew out of a recent Up North Podcast episode featuring Emily Tseffos, a State Senate candidate from Appleton, who warned that food pantries weren’t equipped to replace grocery stores that accept food stamps.

The Minocqua Brewing Company will continue hosting food drives every Sunday as long as there’s a need.
