Healthline First Aid: Shares summer safety tips

Greenfield, Wis. – Healthline First Aid, an American Heart Association training center in Greenfield, wants you to stay safe and beat the heat this summer.

“With the unofficial start of summer, we tend to see an increase in certain illnesses and injuries,” said Andrew Berger, a nationally registered EMT-paramedic and owner of Healthline First Aid. “Fortunately, there are several practical steps you can take to minimize your risk and make the most of your summer.”

Healthline recommends following these summer safety tips:

 Stay hydrated. Drink water throughout the day to avoid heat-related illness. If you are going to enjoy caffeinated or alcoholic beverages – which can contribute to dehydration – do so in moderation.
 Swim safely. Never swim alone, and make sure children have constant supervision when playing in or near the water.
 As temps heat up, slow down. Avoid strenuous exercise or activity between noon -3 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest.
 Stay fresh. Keep perishable food chilled to avoid foodborne illness.

“This season presents unique health and safety challenges, but with the right knowledge and preparation, many incidents are preventable,” Berger said. “The team at Healthline First Aid encourages individuals, families and organizations to take proactive steps—review safety protocols, stay informed and consider formal first aid or CPR training. Being prepared can make all the difference when seconds count.”
