Hands Off Medicaid District 5: Safeguard Medicaid, say no to cuts

As a coalition of caregivers and people with disabilities in Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District, Hands Off Medicaid expresses serious concerns regarding potential Medicaid cuts and their significant impact on our communities. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a reconciliation bill that will modify the funding structure of Medicaid and introduce additional bureaucratic obstacles, making it increasingly difficult for families to access necessary healthcare services.

In Wisconsin, these changes would have severe repercussions:

Over 1.3 million Wisconsinites, including children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and low-income working families—might lose access to essential healthcare services. As caregivers, we observe firsthand the critical role Medicaid plays in supporting our children, aging parents, and neighbors. It provides coverage for 40% of births, 60% of nursing home residents, and 38% of children in Wisconsin. These statistics represent real people; they represent our families.

We strongly urge our U.S Senators to oppose this bill and demonstrate solidarity with the millions of Wisconsinites who depend on this vital program. We require a Medicaid system that safeguards—not penalizes—our most vulnerable citizens.
