— Public Health Madison & Dane County is ready to help anyone in search of abortion access after Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced it’s pausing abortions next month.
PHMDC announced today that its team of registered nurses is standing by to provide help finding abortion services, emergency contraception, pregnancy support and securing funds for care.
The news comes after PPWI announced Wednesday night that it would pause abortions starting Oct. 1 due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act barring federal funds for abortion providers.
“Losing Planned Parenthood clinics as an option for abortion care means the full spectrum of reproductive health care will become very difficult to access in Wisconsin,” Public Health Supervisor Sarah Hughes said.

— Marshfield Clinic Health System wants your ticks, even though peak tick season has passed.
While peak tick season has already come and gone, the health care provider would like as many tick samples as Wisconsinites can provide to further its research. Marshfield Clinic Research Institute so far this year has collected over 5,400 ticks through its Tick Inventory via Citizen Science study.
Last year, the first year of the study, the health care provider received a surge of tick submissions in October.
Most of the ticks collected have been wood ticks, with the majority of the remainder being the smaller deer ticks.
“The deer tick’s small size and greater likelihood of carrying illnesses like Lyme disease is what makes it critical to perform tick checks after spending time in wooded or brushy areas,” Alexandra Linz, Marshfield Clinic Research Institute associate research scientist, said. “Just because the weather is cooler, doesn’t mean that ticks aren’t active.”
The research has allowed the study to detect rare species in Wisconsin, including the lone star tick, which causes Alpha-gal Syndrome, also known as the meat allergy.
