Publication highlights farmer-led initiatives for a more sustainable food system
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Farmers for Sustainable Food today announced the release of its 2024 Progress Report, a yearly report that highlights the organization’s major accomplishments and milestones from the previous year.
“This past year, FSF supported 400 farmers across 10 farmer-led groups in Wisconsin and Minnesota, including myself,” said Paul Cornette, president of FSF’s board. “We rely on science and data to assess our sustainability efforts and to make progress each year. I have seen improvements in soil health on my farm, and I strive to empower others to work toward this goal.”
Top insights from the 2024 Progress Report include:
- Strengthening our farmer-led group support — FSF continues to support the growth of its community of farmer-led watershed conservation groups by fostering connections, sharing knowledge and driving positive impact. In 2024, it expanded its support to include Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative. This recently established group based in Manitowoc County, Wis., has the potential to make significant impacts on the local environment and community.
- Expanding the FSF Sustainability Programs —Building on the FSF Framework for Farm-Level Sustainability Projects, FSF continues to expand sustainability programs and provide farmers with actionable data to make management and business decisions on their farms.
- Growing our collaborative community —FSF continues to foster new connections and strengthen existing partnerships to provide the best possible support to farmers. By collaborating with farmers, processors, scientists, agricultural professionals and others, it fosters the sharing of ideas and considers the sustainability of the whole food system.
