DNC War Room: Senator Ron Johnson vote against preventing Wisconsinites’ health care costs from doubling

Today, Senator Ron Johnson voted against extending enhanced ACA premium tax credits that 271,589 Wisconsinites rely on to afford their health care. Starting on January 1, Wisconsin families will see their monthly health care premiums increase by an average of 114% — all because Senate Republicans refused to act. Republicans have no plan to lower health care costs. Meanwhile, Democrats put forward a common-sense, clean extension of the ACA tax credits — which nearly 75% of Americans support — but once again, Republicans have thrown everyday Wisconsinites under the bus to protect their billionaire tax cuts.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Senator Ron Johnson just voted to make health care even more expensive for 271,589 Wisconsin families, making life even less affordable for thousands of Wisconsinites. Republicans had the chance to stand up for Wisconsin families and bring down health costs — but they chose not to because, in reality, Republicans have no plan to lower costs. Wisconsinites shouldn’t have to choose between food on the table, a roof over their head, or going uninsured. Democrats believe that Wisconsinites deserve better, which is why we’ve been and will keep fighting hard to bring down costs, make health care more affordable, and extend the ACA tax credits.”
