Children’s Wisconsin: Joins elite group of five-time Magnet-recognized organizations

MILWAUKEE — Children’s Wisconsin has earned Magnet® status for the fifth consecutive time from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The health care system received notification of the honor Thursday, June 26 from a representative of the ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program®.

This voluntary credentialing program puts applicants through a rigorous process that focuses on the attainment of excellent patient outcomes that are directly influenced by the exceptional care provided by professional nurses. Magnet status is the highest level of formal recognition for nursing quality in the world and is considered the gold standard for hospitals. Magnet designation is granted every four years to organizations that demonstrate sustained excellence in nursing care, and Children’s Wisconsin first achieved Magnet designation in 2004.

Children’s Wisconsin now sits among the ranks of an elite group of five-time Magnet-recognized hospitals. Fewer than three percent of hospitals worldwide have achieved Magnet recognition and less than half-a-percent of hospitals have earned the designation five consecutive times. At Children’s Wisconsin, this designation recognizes all areas across the system where nursing is practiced, including the Milwaukee and Fox Valley hospitals, ambulatory specialty clinics, primary care, and community- and school-based nursing locations.

“I am so proud of the work our nurses do every single day, going above and beyond for the kids and families we serve,” said Nancy Korom, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Children’s Wisconsin. “This rare achievement is a testament to the quality of care we strive to provide at Children’s Wisconsin. The love and passion our nurses have for their work to improve the health and well-being of kids is what sets them apart.”

Research shows that patients cared for at Magnet hospitals have optimal outcomes and an exceptional experience. Magnet facilities also tend to have more stable workforces as they attract and retain the best nurses, physicians and staff. To receive Magnet status for an additional four years is confirmation of the system’s commitment to delivering the best and safest care.
