American Petroleum Institute: Statement on Line 5 relocation hearing

Madison, WI (September 3, 2025) – The American Petroleum Institute released the below statement from Mike Karbo, Regional Director of the Midwest, following the Enbridge Line 5 Pipeline hearing in Madison today.

Enbridge’s Line 5 relocation project is essential to maintaining Wisconsin’s energy reliability. The project is expected to create over 700 union jobs for Wisconsin workers and help prevent a regional propane shortage that could disrupt fuel supply.

For the past seven decades, Line 5 has heated homes and businesses while also driving agriculture and enabling transportation without any issue. The relocation project has undergone thorough review by federal and state agencies and has been deemed environmentally sound.

The American Petroleum Institute urges Wisconsin regulators to issue the necessary permits to bring this vital infrastructure project into service.”
