Sturgeon Bay, WIS., Sept. 3, 2024— The Women’s Fund of Door County will host a free panel discussion, entitled “Mental Health Across Generations,” in conjunction with its Celebrate Women Luncheon on Friday, September 13.
“Every year, we host a panel discussion related to a topic that our luncheon keynote speaker will address. We delve deeper into the topic, especially as to how it relates to Door County,” explains Kristen Jeanquart, Women’s Fund of Door County board of advisor member. “This year, while our keynote speaker Amy Schmidt discusses cultivating confidence, our panel will explore how different generations understand mental health.”
The panel includes moderator, Ally Bretl, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Door County Medical Center, and panelists Lauren Doust, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Door County Medical Center; Jodi Rose Gonzales, Art Therapist and Certified Counselor, Jodi Rose Studio; and Morgan Kiedrowski, School Counselor, TJ Walker Middle School and Sturgeon Bay High School.
Each panelist will represent a different generation—youth, adults, and seniors–and will examine the similarities and differences as well as the strengths and challenges their generation faces. It will also explore what the Door County community is doing to address each generation’s mental health needs.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness:
• 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year.
• 1 in 6 US youth ages 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. • 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24. • The average delay between onset of mental illness symptoms and treatment is 11 years.
The complimentary panel discussion will be held in Stone Harbor’s main dining room on Friday, September 13 from 10-11 a.m., doors open at 9:30 a.m..
