UW-Stevens Point: Sees another year of enrollment increases

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point saw growth in first-year, graduate and total enrollment for the 2024-25 academic year, according to official information from the first day of classes.

This fall saw a 6% increase in graduate student enrollment, a 3% increase in first-year students/transfer enrollment and a 3% increase in total full-time enrollment at UW-Stevens Point. There has also been increased enrollment from new markets outside of Wisconsin.

“UW-Stevens Point saw the largest growth among UWs in full-time enrollments, tied only with UW-Madison, and is among the top three UW schools for graduate student enrollment growth,” said Lana Poole, chief marketing and enrollment officer.

According to preliminary estimates based on first-day student counts, total enrollment at UW-Stevens Point was 8,263, including the Marshfield and Wausau campuses. First-year enrollment at the Stevens Point campus was 1,738.

Enrollment growth can also be credited to the addition of new academic and athletic programs, and more engagement with students and parents alike.

“We have expanded the ways we connect with families through more in-person and virtual visit options, meeting students where they are,” said Poole. “We also featured our vibrant students and programs in an episode of The College Touron Amazon Prime. Most importantly, we have made college more affordable on our campuses with new scholarship offerings.”

In addition, UW-Stevens Point has a new website, the NextGen Scholarship Portal, which gives students a more streamlined process of applying for and receiving campus scholarships. With minimal exceptions, students fill out one application to be matched with approximately 700 scholarships based on their responses and academic data such as major, GPA, year in college and financial need as reported on the FAFSA. New and transfer students may apply now, and continuing students may apply starting Nov. 1.

“The collaborative efforts of our admissions and recruitment, academic advising and financial aid staff have created more opportunities for our prospective students and their families,” said Chancellor Thomas Gibson. “As a result, more students are finding pathways to realizing their educational goals and discovering their purpose at UW-Stevens Point, and, in turn, helping our regional, state and national economy grow and thrive.”

Students entering college in fall 2025 may visit in person at the UW-Stevens Point Welcome Center and the Marshfield and Wausau Solution Centers. Tours include information about the community, campus life, student resources, the application process and return on investment.
