Green Bay, WI –Sexual violence victims face many obstacles when seeking justice. Last year, UW-Green Bay Police worked with Project Beloved to create a soft interview room on campus. This soft interview room is located in the Police Department on the Green Bay campus. It’s purpose is to help alleviate the pain and fear that victims experience sharing their story, by providing a safe and comfortable space for victims to speak with an officer. This option does not impede the process should the victim decide to press charges.
This victim-centered approach is the first in Wisconsin sponsored by Project Beloved, a nonprofit organization that strives to educate, advocate, and collaborate to change the conversation about sexual assault and empower survivors to find their voices. This space is available to all campus and local communities and is open 24/7.
April is a time to spread awareness and educate our community on the impacts of sexual violence. Tomorrow, April 24, 2024, UW-Green Bay Healthy Choices Taskforce and Student Engagement Center call for all students and staff to wear denim in recognition of Denim Day. Denim Day is a global movement to make a social statement with clothing choice, wearing denim as a visual symbol against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. This event closes out a month of recognition at the UW-Green Bay campuses, including “What Were They Wearing: Survivor Art Installation” at each of the four UW-Green Bay campuses sponsored by campus organizers and local partners, including Family Services and the Golden House.
The annual “What Were They Wearing?” exhibits provide a tangible response to one of our culture’s most pervasive rape myths. The outfits shown were recreated from the stories of real student-survivors, and serves to fight the victim blaming which is often associated with sexual assault. View videos of past exhibits.
