(Green Bay, Wis.) – Tonnage totals during the month of July for the Port of Green Bay reached 229,004 tons with a year-to-date total of 864,628. While the Port has seen steadily increasing totals so far this season, year-to-date totals show a slight decrease of about 7% from last year at this time.
“We’ve been expecting the mild winter last year to have an impact on this year’s salt tonnage,” explained Dean Haen, Port of Green Bay Director. “It makes sense that we’re seeing that reflected as a slight decrease in our overall totals. Barring any new, unforeseen challenges, we’re expecting our other commodities to maintain a consistent pace.”
The leading cargo during July was limestone at 95,317 tons. Other cargoes included cement (56,112 tons), salt (38,414 tons), petroleum products (20,564 tons), coal (16,605 tons) and wood pulp (1,992 tons).
During the month of July, the Port saw 22 ships enter, bringing the year-to-date total to 84 vessels. During the same period last year, 81 ships visited the Port.
