(Green Bay, WI – March 6, 2024)— Hotel Northland is gearing up for two major celebrations to mark the founding of its historic establishment 100 years ago. The first event, scheduled for March 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 pm, is complimentary and open to the public.
“We look forward to hosting the community for this celebratory evening filled with 1920’s-themed festivities, including hors d’oeuvres, guided tours, and a showcase of memorabilia highlighting the rich history* of our beloved hotel,” said Ashley Kellam, General Manager of Hotel Northland.
The historic hotel first opened its doors as part of the Schroder Hotel chain on March 21, 1924. At the time, it was the largest and fanciest hotel in Wisconsin. The luxury hotel operated for more than 50 years, hosting many prominent dignitaries and celebrities, including players and coaches with the Green Bay Packers and other NFL teams. In the 1970s, the building was converted into apartments and then to a senior housing community in the 1980’s. The building eventually closed and remained vacant for nearly a decade. Fortunately for Green Bay, developers with a vision rescued the historic gem. The hotel underwent a meticulous multi-million-dollar renovation, restoring much of the grandeur that existed during its illustrious history complemented by modern amenities of today. On Valentine’s Day, 2019, Hotel Northland, aligned with the Autograph Collection and Greenwood Hospitality re-opened its doors to guests, ushering in a new chapter for the historic hotel.
As part of their Centennial celebrations, the Hotel Northland will also host a special 1920’s dinner and cocktail event on September 20th, partnering with a local nonprofit/charity to be announced. This elevated affair promises an evening of glamour and philanthropy, contributing to a noble cause in our community. Details on ticket sales will be announced soon.
Throughout the year, guests can also indulge in the nostalgia of the Roaring 20’s as the Hotel Northland features special 1920’s themed menu items in the hotel’s renowned Walnut Room restaurant.
“We invite the community to be a part of these momentous celebrations, honoring the legacy of the Hotel Northland while supporting a worthy cause,” added Director Sales, Brandon Flitter. Save the date for both events and join us in making history as we commemorate a century of hospitality, community, and timeless memories.

Following its closing in the 1980’s, rather than dooming the building to demolition, the city of Green Bay was determined to restore the building and leverage the investment as a catalyst to reinvigorate the surrounding downtown community.
