Greenfield, Wis. – As friends and family gather to celebrate and give thanks, Healthline First Aid, an American Heart Association training center in Greenfield, wants to help Wisconsin residents give the gift of life this holiday season.
“More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals every year, and 70% of those happen in homes,” said Andrew Berger, a nationally registered EMT-paramedic and owner of Healthline First Aid. “If you are in a situation that requires you to perform CPR, the odds are that it will be on someone you know.”
Statistics provided by the American Heart Association show that only 40% of people experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest will receive CPR before professional help arrives.
“The immediate actions you take before medical professionals intervene can be the difference between life and death,” said Berger. “You never think you’ll be in that situation, but if you are, we want you to be confident in your skills.”
According to Berger, learning effective CPR is not difficult or time consuming. In as little as 90 minutes, you can learn and practice the essential skills to perform effective CPR with Healthline First Aid’s Heartsaver course. In addition to CPR, the training session covers using an automated external defibrillator (AED) which—when used with CPR—drastically improves survival rates.
“As you make plans for the holiday season, think about the absolute greatest gift you can give someone,” said Berger. “The actions you take now can make all of the difference for your loved ones.”
