(Milwaukee, WI ● January 18, 2024) Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s annual Equal Opportunity Day luncheon will honor local community leaders and organizations making a commitment to equity and inclusion. The event takes place on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Pfister Hotel – Registration 11:00 am, Awards Program 11:30 am – 1:15 pm. This year, following the luncheon, GMUL will launch a special program, in partnership with Meijer and the Latino Chamber of Commerce of SE Wisconsin, to help local entrepreneurs move their product to retail shelves.

Hall, GMUL president and CEO. “Equity initiatives are critical to the growth and development of our community. We are proud to stand with those who practice and promote this important work.”
Milwaukee attorney John W. Daniels, Jr. will receive the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the Urban League and honors the life and legacy of Mr. Young, the longtime National Urban League president. Daniels is a retired partner and chair emeritus of Quarles Law Firm. Other honorees include:

The luncheon will also feature a special panel discussion on 2023 milestones with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, and Attorney Daniels.
At 2:30pm, also at the Pfister Hotel, Meijer will hold an education session on its program to help entrepreneurs to take their products to market, Roadmap to Retail. This program is designed to foster collaboration between Meijer, Fresh Thyme, and advocacy groups representing LGBTQ+, people of disability, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and veteran communities.
