Alzheimer’s Association: Mandela Barnes launches Alzheimer’s fundraiser, Jan. 20

MADISON, WI – On Saturday, January 20, former Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes will launch his fundraising campaign for The Longest Day® at the Brazen Dropouts Bike Swap in the New Holland Pavilion of Madison’s Alliant Energy Center.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Alzheimer’s Association vendor booth, Barnes will discuss his campaign, “Mandela’s Longest Day, Powered by Trek,” comprised of a series of triathlons and other endurance events across the state of Wisconsin. These events will support The Longest Day, which is the day with the most light — the summer solstice, June 21. It’s the day the Alzheimer’s Association calls on everyone to fight Alzheimer’s disease by raising funds and awareness for care, support and research.

“We are excited to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association and Mandela Barnes for this inspiring fundraising campaign to support the fight to end Alzheimer’s and an active, healthy lifestyle,” said Rickey Chernik, Market Development Leads Manager at Trek Bicycle Corp.

Upcoming events in Barnes’ campaign include an Open House, Wednesday, February 21, 6 – 8 p.m. at Trek Bicycle Madison West. The public can participate in “Beat the Barnes,” a virtual indoor Zwift bike ride. Anyone who beats Barnes will win a prize courtesy of Trek, who will also provide incentive giveaways throughout the campaign. Barnes’ fundraiser concludes July 14 at the Door County Triathlon.
