Alliant Energy Foundation: Partners with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County to build home

MADISON, Wisconsin (February 19, 2024) – Volunteers from Alliant Energy will roll up their sleeves to frame an entire Habitat home on Thursday, Feb. 22. Starting at 9 a.m., Alliant Energy’s warehouse in Windsor will transform into a Habitat for Humanity of Dane County construction site.

Alliant Energy volunteers will build all interior and exterior walls for the Habitat home, which will eventually be located at 529 Kay Court in Oregon. This home will be a part of a 1.3-acre development that will serve eight families in the Oregon community.

A future Habitat homeowner, Alimatou Saidykhan, will be onsite working alongside the volunteers building. “This is a dream come true for us. We are so happy to be part of this community,” said Alimatou. Alimatou lives with her four children, Am, Kaddijou, Nuha, and Aisha.

Hunger and housing are giving focus areas of the Alliant Energy Foundation. This focus provides sustainable solutions to move people out of hunger and housing insecurity. Last year, the Alliant Energy Foundation invested nearly $1.2 million in hunger and housing initiatives.

“Alliant Energy is proud to support Habitat for Humanity of Dane County’s work to create sustainable solutions for housing security,” said Julie Bauer, Executive Director, Alliant Energy Foundation. “We are committed to building stronger communities and making a positive difference where Alliant Energy employees, retirees and customers live and work. We hope our work can be a small part of providing stability and safety for Alimatou and her family.”

Before the day is done at 1 p.m., all walls will be stood up just as they will be once they’re moved to their permanent location on Kay Court.

Since 1987 Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has been building in partnership with low-to-moderate-income families in 18 different communities throughout Dane County. Currently Habitat is building in Madison, Sun Prairie, Stoughton, and Oregon.
