Worzalla: Announces community contest to help name new mascot

Stevens Point, Wisconsin (March 8, 2023) – Worzalla, an employee-owned company specializing in printing high-quality children’s books, movie tie-in books and cookbooks, is inviting Stevens Point kindergarten through fourth grade students to help name its new mascot by participating in the Worzalla Mascot Naming Competition. Worzalla has acquired a new mascot, in the shape of an adult-sized blue book, as another opportunity to engage with and encourage reading within the community.

“Worzalla realizes the importance of encouraging youth to read,” said Brianne Petruzalek, Vice President of Human Resources at Worzalla. “Many of Worzalla’s associates are parents, grandparents or siblings to a young reader and asking the community’s youngest readers to name the Worzalla mascot is our way of encouraging everyone to celebrate National Reading Month.”

Classrooms in grades kindergarten through fourth grade at any Portage County school are invited to submit an entry to the Worzalla Mascot Naming Competition. The classroom/student that submits the winning entry will be awarded a pizza party and a $250 donation for supplies for their classroom. A teacher representing a classroom can submit entries to the Worzalla Mascot Naming Competition by emailing the following criteria to readmore@worzalla.com.

  1. The classroom’s suggested name for the mascot along with a brief explanation of why it’s the best name for the book mascot
  2. The full name of the teacher for the classroom
  3. The teacher’s grade and name of the school

Nominations will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on March 31. Finalist entries will be selected by a committee of Worzalla representatives, and three finalists will be chosen based on creativity and relation to children’s literature, books and reading. The finalist entries will be announced on Worzalla’s Facebook Page on April 7, where a round of public voting will determine the winning name for the mascot. The entry with the most votes at 11:59 p.m. Central Time on April 13 will be the winner and will be announced on April 14. Votes will be determined by the number of “likes” and engagements on the corresponding Facebook post.

“Once we decide on a name for our new mascot, we will be sending it around to different community events across Portage County to spread the joy of reading,” added Petruzalek. “Community organizations and schools will also be able to invite our mascot to attend their events, and we’ll share more details about that in the near future.”

As part of National Reading Month, Worzalla is also offering to visit elementary classrooms in the community during the month of March to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the exciting world of book manufacturing. Interested teachers can request a visit by contacting Worzalla at 715.254.9717.

Additional “Worzalla Mascot Naming Competition” rules: There is no purchase necessary to participate in the Worzalla Mascot Naming Competition.
