Wisconsin Historical Society: Old World Wisconsin seeks historic brewers, baseball players and one-room school teachers for seasonal jobs

Eagle, Wisconsin — History buffs, who have a secret desire to time travel, here is your chance to enter the 19th century and immerse yourself in the daily life of Wisconsin’s earliest residents.  Old World Wisconsin is seeking part-time, seasonal employees to fill some fascinating roles.

Step back in time and indulge in a favorite passion while learning some new skills, based on old-world methods. Here is just a sampling of some of the guest experience facilitator roles now available:

19th-century Baseball Players – How would you like to play baseball every weekend and get paid for it? Old World Wisconsin baseball players recruit guests to join the 1870s game, pitching underhand and playing with larger, softer baseballs that can be caught barehanded.

Historic Brewers – Beer played a big role in Wisconsin’s early culture. For passionate home brewers and beer aficionados who want to jump into the world of historic brewing, here is your chance to learn farmhouse brewing methods and share your newfound knowledge with guests.

One Room School House Teachers – Maybe you were once a teacher and miss those classroom days or perhaps you long to be a teacher. Now you can teach young learners the old-time ways when reading, writing and arithmetic were taught on a blackboard, words were looked up in a dictionary and handheld bells were rung at lunchtime.

Additional guest experience facilitator positions available include 19th-century farmers, 1890s high wheel cyclists, woodstove cooks and bakers, soda water bartenders, oxen drivers, blacksmiths, leatherworkers, spinners and weavers, general store clerks and historic gardeners. All hired guest experience facilitators participate in an extensive training session before embarking upon their adventurous new roles.
