Wisconsin Education Association Council: A better Wisconsin starts with students

Wisconsin’s largest union representing public school teachers and support staff mobilizes around Governor Evers’ budget plan for a generational investment in students.

The following statements can be attributed to Wisconsin teacher Peggy Wirtz-Olsen, president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council – Wisconsin’s largest association of educators:

“Building a better Wisconsin starts with investments in public education. The governor’s budget reduces costs for families and launches an historic investment in students – a combination that will improve the quality of life for all Wisconsinites for generations to come. It’s clear why Governor Evers, a teacher at heart, has earned the support of Wisconsin educators. He shares our deep belief in the importance of education and the success and wellbeing of students.

“It’s the hope of Wisconsin educators that the Legislature answers the governor’s call for investments that help our schools hire and support more teachers, school counselors and other personnel who can nurture the development and mental health of our children in this critical time and beyond.”

The governor’s budget aligns with principles embraced by Wisconsin Public School educators:

  • Stabilize the public education system in Wisconsin;
  • Provide clear, consistent, predictable compensation systems for educators; and
  • Create sustainable mental health resources for students and educators.
