Pointters Community Initiatives, founded in 2019 by Dimeji Tomori, was born out of his personal experiences as a Black African American navigating the challenges of finding a job in Northeast Wisconsin. Following a highly successful pilot of the Career Focus Program in 2022 in collaboration with the Appleton Area School District, PCI has received demand from community leaders to extend the program to Oshkosh this fall.
Winnebago County, with a diverse population where 23.4% of its residents identify as Black, African American, or belonging to other Minority Groups, represents an ideal setting for the Career Focus Program. The program’s potential impact is significant, with an estimated reach of up to 10,000 minority students if continued successfully.
Dimeji Tomori, Founder of Pointters Community Initiatives, emphasized the program’s mission, saying, “In order to create meaningful change in the hearts and minds of our minority community, we must first empower people with resources and knowledge. Then they are in a position to change their situation to better themselves and our communities.”
In addition to the event at Fox Valley Technical College – Oshkosh Riverside Campus on October 2, 2023, Pointters Community Initiatives will host a second Career Focus Program for Fox Valley Residents on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Fox Valley Technical College – Bluemound Dr, Appleton, WI.
