MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University Graduate School will host its sixth annual Three Minute Thesis competition to close out Graduate Student Week on Friday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium, 1506 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Graduate Student Week runs Feb. 20-24 and includes events for self-care, socializing, career networking and finding funding.

Graduate students will compete for a $500 prize by presenting their research in three minutes or less using one slide and no animation. There will be an array of presentations from various disciplines, including nursing; religious studies; English; biological sciences; mathematical and statistical sciences; mechanical engineering; biomedical engineering; exercise and rehabilitation science; civil, construction and environmental engineering; computer science; and clinical psychology. The winner will represent Marquette University in a regional Three Minute Thesis competition at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools, March 23-31, in Chicago.

The Three Minute Thesis entrants will be judged by Kelly McShane, Marquette alumna and trustee emerita; Lindsey St. Arnold Bell, interim director of the Near West Side Partners; John Gurda, Milwaukee writer and historian; and Marquette Provost Dr. Kimo Ah Yun.

Media wishing to attend should contact Kevin Conway at kevin.m.conway@marquette.edu.

The Three Minute Thesis is a global research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland in Australia. The competition is open to all master’s and doctoral students enrolled in a program that contains an original research project. The degree program need not formally require a thesis or dissertation, but the presentation topic must cover the original research project.
