Bayfield, Wis. (Sept. 5, 2023) – Honest Dog Books in Bayfield, Wisconsin is celebrating its fourth birthday on September 9 and 10 with food, sales, book readings, and Author Talks.
When: Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10

Where: Honest Dog Books, 40 S. Second St, Bayfield WI
Stop by the store all weekend for free coffee, apple cider donuts, and spontaneous book readings by staff. There will be a buy-one-get-one book table both days from Noon – 5:00 p.m. in the courtyard and in the annex space, The Dog House. The tables will have an eclectic mix of used books focusing on world history, war history and art.
Join us on Sunday at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for a reception and Author Talk with Pam Houston and Luis Alberto Urrea.
This will be Houston’s third Author Talk at Honest Dog Books. A professor of English at the University of California-Davis, Houston is the award-winning author of “Cowboys Are My Weakness,” “Contents May Have Shifted,” and “Deep Creek.”
Urrea was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for his landmark work of nonfiction, “The Devil’s Highway,” and is the author of the bestselling novels “Good Night,” “Irene,” and “Into the Beautiful North.” Born in Tijuana, Urrea now lives outside of Chicago and teaches at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Both Houston and Urrea are leading writing workshops organized by Writing By Writers at Wild Rice Retreat in Bayfield September 10-15.
Honest Dog Book’s fourth birthday is also the same weekend of Festival of Arts at Memorial Park in downtown Bayfield, the kick-off event to Art Escape running September 9-17. Art Escape is a celebration of all things art across Bayfield County and Madeline Island.
Honest Dog Books, owned by adventurers Julie Buckles and Charly Ray, is a used and new bookstore in the heart of Bayfield. Previously called What Goes Round, it is the oldest bookstore north of Highway 8. Buckles recently added an additional space filled with rare books and vinyl called The Dog House.
