MADISON, Wis. –The Agrace Adult Day Center is a supportive place for seniors who have memory loss or cognitive decline—and it gives their families a brief respite from their daily care. To support the needs of both clients and families, Agrace has appointed Karen Wheelock as the Adult Day Center’s manager and Mary Severson as its resource specialist.
Karen Wheelock comes to Agrace from Home Again Assisted Living and Memory Care in Columbus, Wis., where she served as life enrichment coordinator. Prior to that, she was a volunteer coordinator for Agrace for three years. In her new role as manager, Wheelock will oversee the Adult Day Center’s day-to-day operations, manage activities, and work with each client and their family to ensure their individual needs are being met.
Wheelock is a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT) and Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional (CMDCP). During her earlier time with Agrace, Wheelock applied these certifications to help Agrace staff and its thrift store locations become “dementia-friendly,” by the Aging & Disability Resource Center.
Mary Severson comes to Agrace from the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (ADAW). As grant administrator, she worked with families who needed referrals, resources or support while caring for someone with dementia. Severson is also a returning Agrace employee, having served as an Agrace grief counselor for six years.
In her new role as senior support programs resource specialist, Severson will provide care consultations to Adult Day Center clients and support to their caregivers. As an expert on the community resources available, Severson will be an invaluable contact for caregivers to ask questions and seek support.
The Agrace Adult Day Center has immediate openings for seniors who need daytime care, up to five days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Center is located at 1702 W. Beltline Highway, Madison. For more information, call (608) 327-7303 or visit Agrace.org/AdultDayCenter.
