Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin: Ranks in the top 10% among the nation’s best health plans

MADISON, WISCONSIN, September 16, 2022 – Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin (GHC-SCW) announces it has achieved a 4.5 out of 5 rating according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Private Commercial Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2022.

Of 536 health plans nationally reporting partial or full data to NCQA, only 36 plans received a 4.5 rating, putting GHC-SCW in the top 10% of plans nationally. No other plans in Wisconsin ranked higher.

“We’ve made it our mission to continually innovate and improve for our members,” said Dr. Mark Huth, GHC-SCW Chief Executive Officer. “We’ve earned an ‘excellent’ accreditation status for 27 years from NCQA and regard the ratings as a kind of ‘People’s Choice Award,’ because they represent direct feedback from our members about their experiences at GHC. And that’s why all 800+ of us get out of bed in the morning – to provide superb care to our members.”

NCQA ratings compare the quality and services of health plans in the United States and provides information on their website to help consumers, employers and others make better informed health care choices.

The ratings aggregate three major performance categories:

  • Patient Experience: What patients say about their health plans in satisfaction surveys, including about claims processing and customer service.
  • Prevention: Checkups, tests and other care that keeps people-especially children-healthy.
  • Treatment: How consistently a plan provides scientifically recommended care for common, costly conditions such as diabetes, depression, and heart disease.

GHC’s unique money-back guarantee – ensuring a positive experience in our clinics – set a new standard for primary care delivery, and one that fuels constant innovation and service upgrades.

“The guarantee was one way for us to affirm our commitment to exceptional care, but also to put the verdict in the hands of our members,” Huth said. “If we fail you, you won’t pay for that experience. And in the four years since implementing the guarantee, we haven’t failed very often.”
