Canni Hemp: Purchases store building, announces plans to become a community destination

MILWAUKEE – (January 31, 2022) – Canni Hemp Company, Milwaukee’s first cannabidiol (CBD) and hemp specialty store, announced today it has purchased the 2,000 square-foot building at 810 S. 5th Street in Walker’s Point, the location of the company’s retail store. Milwaukee musician Colin Plant, who is also the Founder and CEO of Canni Hemp Company, purchased the building constructed in 1890 from David Herro and closed on the property on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Plant’s long-term plan has always been to purchase the Walker’s Point building, and during the last three years, he has made numerous improvements to the outdoor space behind it. His plan recently came to fruition when Herro shared with him that he was interested in selling.

A local musician, Plant grew up on the south side of Milwaukee and has spent most of his life in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. Regularly attending Walker’s Point Neighborhood Association meetings, he is both an invested community member and business owner who wants to continue to contribute to and is excited about the future of the community. While Plant is not looking to change the company’s brand or its products, with this change of ownership, he is already looking for ways to modify the space to benefit his neighborhood. Especially during the warmer months, Plant has plans to transform the property’s outdoor space into more of a destination for the community to regularly come together, relax and decompress, and work.

“I want to continue to find new ways to contribute to the neighborhood and support the people living in my community,” said Plant. “We want to benefit our company, the local residents, as well as neighboring businesses.”

Plant and his team are already starting to fill up their calendars from approximately the first week of June through September with weekly events such as live music and Maker’s Markets, and he even has plans to apply for liquor licenses.

“I have a real passion for working with other small businesses,” said Plant. “We’d like to provide an opportunity for those that don’t have a brick-and-mortar shop to be able to set up at our location and support them.”

Plant is also looking to use the outdoor space to provide more educational opportunities for the community. Canni is one of the only retailers in the entire state that has a growing operation attached to it. Plant and his team pride themselves on being a responsible retailer, and providing accurate information to its customers. It provides some of this education on its website, cannihempco.com, and on its blog.

“Our customers often rely on us to filter out the inaccurate information that’s out there about the industry,” said Plant. “We want to offer more ways to responsibly educate our community about alternative and natural ways of dealing with things such as stress, anxiety and pain.”

In 2018, Colin Plant and his team set out to create the first-of-its-kind, health and wellness boutique, specializing in legal, high-quality cannabis products. Canni’s products have been formulated with helping the community in mind, such as dealing with pain, anxiety, sleeplessness and other issues that can throw a person off-balance in a safe, natural way without adverse effects. Canni offers a range of products including tinctures/oils, smokables, vaping products, edibles, cold brew coffee, pet supplies, health and beauty products, apparel and grocery items.

Canni’s line of products are sourced and produced locally with a focus on supporting local farmers, processors and purveyors, and has crafted its Canni Signature Line with the finest Wisconsin- grown hemp. Canni requires third-party lab testing and a certificate of authenticity for all of the products it sells. Canni is the only cannabis company to have been invited to participate in Pride Fest and is one of the few hemp businesses that will be once again vending at Summerfest.
