|Milwaukee – The largest solar power project in Cudahy history is now sending clean, renewable energy to people across Wisconsin. The project, which is part of the We Energies Solar Now program, is a partnership between We Energies and specialty materials and components producer ATI.|
The solar arrays are located on land owned by ATI near the company’s plant in Cudahy. The 7,000 solar panels cover eight acres. When the sun is shining, they produce enough energy to power about 700 homes.
|“ATI is honored to help make renewable energy possible in Wisconsin. It’s an important way to support the community we’ve called home for more than 100 years,” said Jim Meudt, President of ATI Forged Products. “We are proud to power the future by partnering with We Energies to make solar an available renewable energy solution, supporting the planet for generations to come.” |
Under the Solar Now program, We Energies partners with large business, nonprofit and government customers to host solar array installations on roofs and unused land. The clean energy that is produced is delivered to the power grid to then serve all customers.
“Our innovative Solar Now program is part of our focus on investing in affordable, reliable and clean energy for our customers,” said Tom Metcalfe, president — We Energies. “These projects deliver savings to our customers while creating green jobs and helping drive the state’s economy.”
Solar Now is a pilot program approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. Working with industry partners, environmental groups and state leaders, We Energies and its parent company WEC Energy Group are working to reduce carbon emissions from electricity generation 60% by 2025 and 80% by the end of 2030, compared to 2005 levels. They are also planning for a net-zero electric generation fleet by 2050.
