UW-Green Bay: Streamlines and enhances diversity, equity and inclusion certificate program, now enrolling for new dates

Green Bay, WI – Based on participant feedback, UW-Green Bay has streamlined and enhanced the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate Program with more in-depth modules across eight weeks. The program is designed to address the complexities of cultural and societal biases and how they manifest in conversations and interactions at home, at work and at play.

Instructor Reverend Lex Cade-White explained, “As a lover of learning and worker, community member, and social being I do not always have time to take multiple courses to gain the wisdom I want while working. With this eight-week course and flexibility of options for live discussions participants can learn what they need, while working and living their lives.”

The program is available in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. Each module addresses a specific topic for self-study with more comprehensive discussion available in online live sessions. The final panelist session is mandatory. Participants can choose two of the other four, based on their needs and/or interests.

UW-Green Bay’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate has been embraced by changemakers across the country in 26 states, including Jenise Ogle in New York, New York, where she is Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Impact at Odyssey, working closely with filmmakers, policymakers and community organizations to raise awareness of pressing issues that drive social change.

About the program, Jenise said, “The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate program has been instrumental in helping me develop my organization’s DE&I strategy. I was pleasantly surprised that this course took a thoughtful and nuanced approach to the subject of DE&I and shared practical suggestions that could immediately be implemented in the workplace. I would recommend this program to anyone seeking to deepen their knowledge of DE&I.”

An overview of the eight modules:

  1. Understanding Unconscious Bias
  2. Skills for Inclusive and Exclusive Conversations (includes an online live session)
  3. Understanding Micro-Aggression
  4. Equity and Equality – Workplace Demographics (includes an online live session)
  5. Building Multicultural Environments – Cultural Humility
  6. Playing and Working Well Together – Managing a Multigenerational Workplace (includes an online live session)
  7. Embedding Respect and DEI into Organizational Culture
  8. Allyship and Resilience (includes an online live panel discussion)

The certificate program now achieves broader scope over a more efficient timeline. After completion, participants will have the understanding and wisdom needed to practice difficult conversation and create their own plan for change.
