In an effort to fight hunger in local communities, Wells Fargo is announcing a $20,000 donation to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, a Feeding America® member food bank in Southwestern Wisconsin. Millions of people nationwide face hunger every day. And this past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has thrust even more Americans into this vulnerable position. One in eight Wisconsinite’s struggle with hunger.
Wells Fargo has a long-standing relationship with Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the country, and its network of 200 member food banks, which includes Second Harvest Foodbank, Southwestern Wisconsin’s largest hunger-relief charity with over 225 distribution partners providing meals for families.
“Hunger is a year-round issue, and due to the pandemic the need for food is unfortunately much greater than ever before,” said Wells Fargo District Manager Sara Charlton. “Wells Fargo is deeply committed to the communities we serve and we are glad to present Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin with $20,000 so that food banks across Wisconsin can provide meals to people in need. There are many hearts and one community, and we humbly join others in solidarity to help during these tough times.”
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous gift from Wells Fargo,” said Second Harvest president & CEO Michelle Orge. “It’s because of gifts like this that we are able to help those in our community who are most vulnerable.”
In 2020, Wells Fargo launched a nationwide Drive-Up Food Bank program, in which the company helped reach families facing hunger due to the COVID-19 pandemic by working with local Feeding America member food banks to reach more people by distributing food at some of the company’s branches and corporate locations. In addition, Wells Fargo is directing grants to the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, fulfilling the company’s previous commitment to help provide 82 million meals* to families in need.
* 82 million meals calculation is based on 1) Actual number of meals distributed through Wells Fargo Food Bank Drive-Up events and 2) Wells Fargo’s financial contributions to support Feeding America food banks 7/20/20-12/31/20. $1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.
