Heather L. Nelson named as law firm’s new president, marking a milestone in the

Firm’s 105-year legacy

GREEN BAY, WI — Today, The Everson Law Firm shared that it has chosen Heather L. Nelson as its new President. The announcement follows the retirement of John M. Thompson, who had served as president since 2015. Nelson will be the first woman to serve as the firm’s president in its 105-year history.

“Everson Law is thrilled to recognize Heather Nelson as our new president,” said John Heide, Attorney at The Everson Law Firm. “Heather has been an exceptional lawyer and invaluable team member, advocate and leader, and we are excited to see her usher Everson in a new era of service to the Green Bay community.”

Nelson earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago and launched her career in the Chicago area, where she garnered over 20 years of experience in premises liability, motor vehicle accidents and trial practice, among other areas. In 2000, Nelson became licensed to practice law in Wisconsin, defending cases in both Illinois and Wisconsin as Lead Trial Attorney for The Hanover Insurance Group.

Returning to her Green Bay roots, Nelson joined The Everson Law Firm in 2016, where her practice has focused on all aspects of personal injury defense, including motor vehicle accidents, premises liability claims, wrongful death, products liability and insurance coverage.

In step with The Everson Law Firm’s core values of community leadership and service, Nelson serves on the Board of Directors for Wisconsin Defense Counsel (WDC) and as Chair of WDC’s Women in the Law Committee. In August, she will take over as Program Chair of WDC. Nelson was recently elected to serve on the State Bar of Wisconsin Litigation Section Board and has presented a variety of Continuing Legal Education topics at conferences held by the State Bar of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Defense Counsel.

Beyond her involvement in WDC, Nelson has also served as Presiding Judge and Scoring Judge for Wisconsin’s High School Mock Trial tournaments, which has proved to be an opportunity to encourage and mentor aspiring litigators.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead the firm in its mission to provide Northeastern Wisconsin with the best possible legal services,” said Nelson. “It is an honor to play a role in the firm’s long-standing history and contribute to Everson’s legacy of practicing with integrity, expertise and compassion.”
