Wisconsin Paper Council: Congratulates Sen. Bewley on being elected Senate Minority Leader

MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin Paper Council issued the following statement congratulating Senator Janet Bewley (D-Mason) as the newly elected the State Senate Democratic Leader:

“The Wisconsin Paper Council extends our congratulations to Senator Janet Bewley for being unanimously elected the new Senate Democratic Leader.  Senator Bewley has been a strong advocate for the paper and forest products industry and our organization looks forward to working with her in her expanded leadership role on issues important to the forestry and papermaking in our great state.”

Senator Bewley serves as Vice-Chairperson of the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus.  The mission of the bipartisan, bicameral Wisconsin Paper Caucus is to work together in a bipartisan fashion to develop common sense policy solutions which will help sustain and promote the forestry, papermaking, converting and printing manufacturing sectors throughout our great state.  The goal of this informal group is to help educate policy makers and the public about the economic and social importance of papermaking, forestry and printing to our great state. 

The Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) is the premier trade association which advocates for the papermaking industry before regulatory bodies, state and federal legislatures to achieve positive policy outcomes. WPC also works to educate the general public about the social, environmental, and economic importance of paper, pulp, and forestry production in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest.

The Wisconsin paper industry employs more than 30,000 men and women and is home to about 35 pulp, paper and paperboard mills. In addition, the Wisconsin paper industry provides nearly $2.5 billion in payroll to the state’s economy.
