MWFPA: Midwest food manufacturers praise passage of trade deal

Midwest Food Products Association (MWFPA) President Jason Culotta today thanked members of the U.S. Senate for their bipartisan approval of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Culotta made the following statement.

“Today is a major step forward for the food manufacturing industry and American agriculture. Trade with Canada and Mexico is tremendously important to our members totaling more than $3.6 billion in 2018. Passage of the trade act by Congress brings much needed certainty and stability on trade. USMCA is a terrific deal for U.S. food manufacturers, the producers who support us, and our industry’s partners in Canada and Mexico.”

In 2018, Canada was the top export market for food manufacturers in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin purchasing more than $2.5 billion in products.

Mexico ranked second for food manufacturing exports purchasing more than $1.1 billion in products.
