Fiveable: Launches new interactive features & games for AP exam prep

MILWAUKEE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Fiveable, a social learning platform dedicated to making test prep resources and support accessible to all students, has introduced new product features and games to further help high school students prepare for Advanced Placement (AP) exams taking place May 11-22. Per the recent shift to distance learning, as well as the College Board’s implementation of an altered, online exam format, Fiveable’s new offerings seek to keep teenagers engaged and motivated outside the classroom.

In addition to offering live streams, trivia events, and study guides spanning 15 different AP subjects free of charge, Fiveable has implemented three new features to encourage increased engagement as well as foster interactive and creative support for its students. Teachers, students, and parents can now access:

  • 2020 Fiveable Olympics: The first annual Fiveable Olympics allows students who use the company’s platform to earn study points for each action taken—attending a live stream, watching a review video, playing trivia, reading a study guide or practicing an essay prompt. Teams of four can combine points to compete against each other and become eligible for rewards that include cash prizes, Amazon gift cards, and Fiveable merchandise. Daily challenges will be posted as well as opportunities to earn additional points through Instagram and TikTok. There will be individual winners, team winners, and a class winner, as teachers also have the ability to create their own dashboard and invite their students to compete together. An official Opening Ceremony will stream on Monday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. ET featuring a special performance by singers from the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. The games will be played through the last day of exams on May 22nd.
  • HyperTyper: As the AP exam will now consist of one 45-minute essay question, Fiveable has built HyperTyper to help students hone their typing skills while learning new content by participating in timed typing exercises on a subject of their choice.
  • Customizable Trivia: Enhanced capabilities are being added to the Fiveable trivia platform that allow students to create a customized game to play at their convenience. Students will have the option to set a timed game as well as choose from select questions across subjects and units of their choice.

To better accommodate the 500% increase in users Fiveable experienced from February to March, developers and designers have been working diligently to develop new user-friendly content and features. In addition to the company’s team of creators—which consists of both teachers and students—creating thousands of pieces of new content, the company has made videos downloadable to better serve students with unreliable internet, updated their teacher dashboard with new features, and also created essay prompts that align with the new AP test format.

Creativity and engagement among Fiveable students has also taken shape in new forms, including the creation of a new student-run podcast called “Homeroom at Fiveable” where high schoolers of different backgrounds discuss topics that matter most to them, ranging from casual topics like TikTok to serious concerns and observations surrounding mental health.
